in person the whole vehicle is kinda scary. He did drive it which I wouldn't do in it's current state. JUst a quick look around and the tranny mount is too low putting a bad angle on the drive train, the rear pinion is too high, lots of loose bolts, steering column loose, battery tray loose suspension hardware loose etc. its like he stopped in the middle of the build. makes sense since he said he had back surgery but I wouldn t' drive it. to control rear axle wrap he has a bar mounted from the frame directly to the axle with no means for increasing or decreasing length as the suspension travels. it would smoke the 35" tires though. saw a plug wire reversed, fuel tank "T" connector with one of the ends not capped and the distributor was loose. (probably having a hard time getting it to stop backfiring by adjusting the timing with the plug wires reversed). Overall I am pleased with the purchase as I have an excellent base vehicle for this build. the frame is refurb and reinforced throughout, body is fiberglass and motor is what I wanted. the tranny and transfer case have 29k miles on them whatever they are from the early 90's blazer. I'm looking forward to dropping a pair of 60's under it and building a new suspension for it. the axles don't look like 78/79 bronco axles, they look like early bronco axles. I dont' know for sure but will investigate that further and figure the gear ratio as well. I'm dying to tear into this so I can go out and smoke the tires down the street. wife says "NO WORKING ON THE NEW JEEP UNTIL MY BATHROOM IS DONE!" I did take her parking spot in the garage for now. more to come later for this mud bogger project.

1250 is pricy for 83k miles. I think I'll just wheel my jeep while this motor is rebuilt. first things first though. I need to go over every bolt on this thing and make sure nothing is loose etc. then Fix the driveline angle. the motor/tranny is angled down quite a bit, might be he didn't finish the tranny mount. then I'll go smoke the tires off the thing and make sure its running good. then axle swap and suspension build. then comes the major part. build the 454 for high hp, build a turbo 400 to handle it, and install a NP 205 tcase. then run the piss out of it. Randy just called and has a matching set of D60 axles for me. They will be delivered on Nov 10th after the comp.

bill, what are you going to do with the dana 44 front when you pull that, if you are pulling it, that would be a good axle for kathy to set up for her jeep

could very well be. same bolt pattern and already has warn hubs. Nester expressed interest first though. It will be awhile before I do anything with it. I want to get the driveline working well first, get the angles and all right.

CJ is not a priority since I have to fix some things on the YJ. I did get the CJ running with the help of Nester and Ryan. We found the CJ had a fuel pump wired to a toggle switch. We were testing the fuel pressure which was zero and traced the wires to the under dash area. Nester flipped a switch and the open fuel line threw gas everywhere, problem solved. then, after an hour of letting the fuel evaporate from the motor, we were able to get it started. Only runs with the choke pulled though and dumps a lot of fuel. Next step is to take it to the local hot rod specialist and have him troubleshoot the vacuum lines, carb, and timing to get it running right.

CJ is at Dave Leasures. Carb was bad, so was the vacuum advance assembly. I was going to upgrade to an off road carb anyway so this works out. Dave is rebuilding the HEI distributer with a kit I bought from Jegs. Also bought the new Holley Avenger off road carburator. Dropped it off this morning for him to install.

"The Off–Road Truck Avenger is Designed Specifically for Off–Road Applications. The Unique Fuel Metering Block Eliminates Fuel Spillover through the Boosters at Extreme Angles Allowing for 40 Degree Climbing, 30 Degree Side Hill Maneuvers and Nose–Down Descents to Avoid Hesitations, Stalling and Flooding Typically Associated with Carbs in an Off Road Environment. The 770 CFM Off–Road Truck Avenger is the Perfect Carburetor for Big Block Engines."
