Yes, if they close the beach. No, if we drive north about 30-45 minutes there is another 18 mile stretch of beach that we can drive on. Carova Beach is up past Corrola. The problem would be in the driving or finding another hotel farther north so that we dont have to drive so far.

I called Christa at Owen's motel and she remembered us from last year!
She said that she has plenty of availability left for the weekend of August 14th - 17th. She said that the rooms with the 2 beds are $130 and the rooms w/ 1 queen are $100 per night.
She said to be sure to mention that you are with the Jeep club when you reserve the room.

I washed a bunch of dried up mud off of the back of the radiator this weekend and now I'm running much cooler. I also made a rope ladder for Karen to get in the jeep out of a piece of 2x4, some 3/8' rope and 2 caribeners. I was going to make it 2 rungs, but I was plenty. I just clip it on to the bar on the rockers. She wanted me to carry around a step stool, but I refused.

Tony - We'll get you out there one of these days.

I just found a link to buy the fishing licence online...

Had a very good time. Drive home was a long one, 10a.m. to 7 p.m. sat on 64 west for quite a while. Casey had a blast, Aaron eventually came around and had a good time as well.

We had a great time too. I think I finally recovered this afternoon. We drove from 7:30 to 4:30 yesterday..... but we made a ton of pit stops along the way.

I flew to Raleigh for work this morning and they gave me a Liberty for my rental..... I'm itching to drive it back out to the OBX - but that would be tough to explain to the boss.

Here is why they shouldn't rent a Jeep to me:

I've been driving all over NC for the last week and a half for work. One night I took the ferry from Cedar Island over to Ocracoke and stayed there for the night. It was a 2 hour boat ride, but it beats sitting in a motel in the middle of no where.
I kept the Liberty on the hard sand cause I didn't know how well it would do in the loose stuff
Here is a shot from the ferry approaching the island a little after 7pm.

We had a good time too. Our trip home was an adventure. About 5 minutes after we split from Nester, we were trying to stop at Island Offroad to see if they were open. I missed the turn and when I went to turn around I ran over part of a channel lock....5 inches worth that punctured one of the Tahoe tires. Couldn't get the bottle jack out so tried to use the high lift. The Tahoe kept sliding on it because the only place we could lift it from was the hitch. Finally got the tire off and put the smaller spare on...only to discover as we were jacking it back down that the spare was flat too and the can of Fix-A-Flat I had was bad. We carry a spare Tahoe tire but without a rim. I wouldn’t have wanted to trailer with that small tire the 5 hours home & everything was closed since it was Sunday. Dave got ahold of a towing company but they couldn't swap it because it was too big. That guy knew someone at Island Offroad tho. He said they are closed on Sunday but sometimes someone is there and luckily there was. The guy (whose name I didn’t get) came and picked us and the tire up and did the tire swap and even balanced it since he had the equipment to do large tires!!

They had some amazing trucks there (mostly Fords). The one he picked us up in had an 11” lift and another one in the lot had a 21” lift!! There was Jeep/buggy in the yard on 43s that they take to the mud bug up the street. He has a picture in his office of him in another Jeep flying through the air over the mud bog (my frequent flyer miles are nothing compared to this guy). I got a couple stickers from him and he took us back. He couldn’t have been nicer. They have a web site: http://www.islandoffroadobx.com/Home.html. The guy who took care of us is on the bottom of the page at the right, the white truck he picked us up in is on the left and that is his Jeep almost upended.

Anyway, we had more difficulty getting the repaired tire back on due to jack slippage again and we were finally able to get the bottle jack out and finish the job. 2 and a half hours later we were back on the road. Thanks to Nester who made some calls for us to try to find an open tire shop and was ready to come help us out with air and follow us to a safe place if needed.

So for the future, I will check the air in my spare tire periodically and Danny, where did you buy your “on board” air compressor? I think it’s time for me to get one.

I stopped by there later that week and dropped off a 12 of Corona with the guys. That shop is sweet and he had me talking about making the Van a 4x4.

I just realized I never posted my pics. Mostly my Jeep but there are a few others in there including the group shot. Here they are:

Anyone else have any?
