So I still have my "save paragon ap" stickers on the hood of my jeep and I have been thinking of ideas of another good statement to put on my hood. I was thinking of "KEEP PUBLIC LANDS OPEN" I'm not sure if that gets my statement across in the right way. I'm looking for everyones personal input. Am I making myself clear? should I reword it? does anyone else want me to make them copies for there hood.

Lawmakers, Residents Mull Airport

Lawmakers, Residents Mull Airport - Video

By Bianca Barr

The economic impact of a proposed cargo airport in Luzerne County was discussed Monday night.

The proposed airport is on
the Luzerne/Schuylkill County
line, near Hazleton.

Lawmakers requested a study before deciding whether to hand over millions in state money for the project.

Consultants presented their findings to a panel of local lawmakers as well as an audience of concerned citizens at Hazleton Area high school.

The consultants said developers of the proposed cargo airport near Hazleton, Gladstone Partners, should provide a letter of commitment from an anchor tenant before the state lays out $250 million for the project.

Developers want to build a $500 million cargo airport on the Luzerne/Schuylkill County line as part of a larger $1.2 billion project. They are asking the state for $250 million in redevelopment assistance money.

Carol Ann Palubinsky grew up in a home that borders the proposed airport.

"A letter of intent doesn't pay the bills. What happens if Gladstone Partners goes bankrupt? What happens if the carrier who says they will come here doesn't do well and they can't pay the bills? No one addressed that and it all comes back on our community," said Palubinsky.

The study shows that the major integrated cargo carriers, such as FedEx or UPS, would probably not move to the proposed airport. The developer has said it could attract multiple international carriers, which these consultants say must happen in order for the project to succeed.

"On the face, it would appear that five or six carriers collectively could bring in the same scale of operations as an integrator, but the commonwealth needs to be very confident in whom they are getting and what the level of commitment is from the carriers," said consultant Michael Webber.

The panel of state lawmakers had many questions about this issue.

"As it is structured with a private investor taking a lead role, we need to ensure that all safeguards are in place for the commonwealth's investment if it were to move forward," said state senator Lisa Baker of Luzerne County.

State representative David Argall of Schuylkill County also expressed concern.

"Unless the partner comes up with $250 million - the private sector - and unless they have airlines that will use this, it doesn't make sense." said Rep. Argall.

Lawmakers said they will continue to talk with the developer as well as their constituents before they decide if it's prudent to earmark the funds for the proposed cargo airport near Hazleton.

I really like this one:

Hazle Twp. off-road park sues land owner, airport developer

The company that operated a park for off-road and all-terrain vehicles in Hazle Township — on the site of a proposed $1.6 billion cargo airport — has filed a lawsuit against the owner of the land and the developer of the airport, claiming they conspired to force the park to close.

Overland Enterprises Inc., based in Zion Grove, entered into a 25-year lease with the owner of the land, PCA Corp. of Hazleton, in February 2004 and operated the Paragon Outdoor Adventure Park there until June 2006, when the developer of the cargo airport, Gladstone Partners LLC, moved for the park’s eviction, the lawsuit said.

The eviction action was based on allegations Overland Enterprises failed to make rental payments, failed to maintain insurance required under the lease contract and failed to adequately and properly maintain the property, causing harm to the environment.

Those claims were false, and intended solely to damage the park’s reputation and its ability to conduct business, according to the lawsuit, filed last Friday in the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas.

James R. Scallion, the attorney for Overland Enterprises, said Tuesday the lease between the company and PCA Corp. did include a condition that the park could be forced out if the property were sold.

Gladstone Partners LLC has an option to buy the land, but no sale has taken place.

Overland Enterprises claimed in the lawsuit it had never dealt with Gladstone before the eviction action and that Gladstone, “had no interest in the land in question, save an alleged assignment of rights,” from PCA Corp.

Overland Enterprises used about 2,200 acres of the 4,300-acre property in the Humboldt Industrial Park, on the Luzerne-Schuylkill county line, for marked trails and paths used by all-terrain and other recreational vehicles.

The company is demanding damages in excess of $50,000 from each of seven defendants: PCA Corp.; Gladstone Partners LLC; the estate of the company’s former chief executive officer, Philip Seltzer; A.J. Land of Hazleton; Gordon Katz, Reid Block and John MacKay Jr. of Fort Washington.

Gregory Zappala, the owner of Gladstone Partners LLC, referred questions about the lawsuit to spokeswoman Catherine Shafer, who said she had not seen the court filing, but would review it.

Representatives of PCA Corp. and the other defendants could not be reached for comment.

Overland Enterprises lost its battle to keep the park open in April 2007, when the state Superior Court threw out an injunction that had been allowing the park to continue operating.

Well then the stickers stay. The fight is still on and I support screwing with the fuckers that closed my park.
