PostSubject: Info on trailers   Sun Feb 01, 2009 1:22 pm

Its inevitable - I'm gonna have to get a grown up vehicle sooner or later and when I do I want to get something strong enough to pull a trailer for the jeep.

My thoughts are that I could sell/trade the 91 YJ for a trailer - but I don't know what specs to look for in a trailer. The TJ is 6'1" wide from front tire to front tire - which sucks bc I know I've seen trailers that are 6ft wide. I would want to get the smallest/lightest that could transport a jeep.

I'm doing this all backwards for a reason. I'm trying to get the trailer first before the truck bc when I do eventually get a truck I know I wont have the extra $ for a trailer. That and Karen said its OK.... She would rather look at a trailer in the driveway than the 3rd Jeep

So if anyone sees one on Craigslist or on the side of the road for sale let me know!

I just paid off the TJ this week! Next task is finding a truck that is strong enough to pull the trailer & Jeep. Its gotta have a back seat so I was browsing the internet and looking at the f150 and the dodge 1500 with the extended cab and short bed. I was looking at both New and used 06 or 07. Any suggestions are welcome - and if you see one for sale feel free to pass the info along. I'm not in any hurry at all -just kinda waiting for a sweet deal.

Thanks!
DC

Danny, I don't know much about them except that a number of people have commented on mine and how light it is but also how strong it is because it's all metal. I prefer having the open center because I've been able to work on the Jeep while it is on there and have had space to move around. But, it doesn't allow for things like putting a tent on there at Big Dogs or storing extra gear. You would have to decide which is more important to you.

I ordered mine and got brakes on both axles, nice feature. Maryland only requires one axle to have brakes. Mine ended up costing what I could have bought it for locally. I think a new 16' trailer is like $2,300.

How much are you looking to get for it? I may be interested. Figuring out what is wrong with it would be a good way for me to learn some things.

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to sell it for money.... because somewhere between selling the YJ and the trailer store that $$ would turn itself into new dining room furniture or something else equally as boring.... haha

Ah...I understand how that works. We are talking about getting another one to be a street Jeep...maybe for Dave to take to and from work instead of his truck so there is no hurry. I can wait until you are ready to go get the trailer before buying it from you. Then you can take the money and run immediately to the nearest trailer store. Very Happy We'll talk.
